Word of the Week – Comfort

Each Friday, I would like to share a word of the week with you. Something that summarises what I’ve been up to, how I’ve felt and how life is generally going. I’d love if you’d share your own in the comments or even join in with the link up if you are a blogger. (You can find the details at the bottom of this post.) It can be so therapeutic to reflect on what’s been happening, good or bad. It will be nice to look back on these posts in the future too!

This week I have chosen the word Comfort

With the weather taking a big turn this past week, I was worried my mood would too. We’ve been so lucky with the warm sunshine over the last month or two and now all of a sudden we’re back to rain and the cold. Thankfully, I am a lover of all things comfort and I’ve actually enjoyed the change.

To add to the comfort, I’ve been living in comfy clothes. Few things form my normal wardrobe fit over my bump now as I’m 19 weeks today. I have ordered a couple of items, including some maternity jeans and a few t-shirts, to help. Let’s be honest though, there is nothing more comfortable than baggy clothes made of cotton. Especially when we are spending so much time at home. I have pretty much been living in my joggy bottoms and jumpers!

The comfy clothes have also been necessary for warmth as my favourite place to sit and work is the conservatory. It’s so nice to be able to look across the garden while I write and draw. The only problem is that with so many windows, the room can get quite cold so I’ve had to wrap up a bit more over the last few days. I’ve even had the (fake) fire on a couple of times this week. The ultimate comfort!

Another thing which has brought me comfort this week is Christmas scented candles. I’m sorry if that word offends anyone in the month of June, I know it’s rather early. I just really love that time of year and like to bring out the festive scents every so often. I don’t know about everyone else, but the challenges of being away from family have hit me a little harder this week. Small things like candles in a favourite scent really help me to handle my mental health and get through tough days.

With the weather set to continue like this into the weekend, I think I’ll be spending some time baking too. A banana bread most likely, what else? That will be the perfect comfort to round off the week!

  1. No judgement here! I love Christmas and christmas-scented candles always make me feel extra cosy! Being away from family must be so hard while you’re pregnant. Big hugs xx #wotw

    1. It is, but if it keeps everyone safe then I’m happy to do it! I’ll just make sure I’m well stocked on Christmas candles to get me through 😉 #wotw

  2. comfort is a lovely word. I have to admit, the thing I like best about bad weather is getting cosy and comfortable. I haven’t been bothered by the change in weather, apart from the fact I bought new garden furniture. And you are 19 weeks now, how exciting!

    1. Time is flying by Anne! About as quickly as this weather is changing it seems. Lots to look forward to 🙂 #wotw

  3. I enjoyed reading about your word. Comfort is so necessary these days. Sometimes, in the early days of the lockdown, I have to admit I would change from my pajamas to my running clothes, go for a run, take a shower, and get back in my pajamas again. Ugh! Now, at least I get dressed because I go outside in the nice weather every day.

  4. As much as I’ve complained about the weather I have liked the change. We got to have a pj day and watch some films. It’s been nice.
When I was pregnant with my two I spent as much time in pj’s as I could. lol How exciting to order some maternity clothed.
I love Christmas scented candles especially when the weather has been like it has been x

    1. It’s so nice not to have to think about what I’m going to wear Kim! I’m not here to impress anyone, just look after myself and the bump 🙂 #wotw

  5. Baggy clothes are blissful when you have a bump – it makes such a difference having comfortable clothes. Sitting in the conservatory sounds like a lovely place to write and draw but I can imagine that you might get some extremes of temperature in there too. Christmas scented candles sound lovely, even in June. #WotW

    1. We’re now getting the garden done this week, unexpectedly, so the conservatory is going to be even nicer! I can handle the weather changes. Windows and jumpers exist for a reason 🙂 #wotw
